Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer Review
I wanted to like you, Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer. I really did. Unfortunately your cons outweigh the pros for me. (I didn't realize how long your name was until I had to type it out, either.)
Lately I've felt like I needed some extra help with brightening up my undereyes and around my mouth, and that regular concealer or foundation just wasn't cutting it anymore. So I set out to the drugstore in search of a highlighting concealer and Maybelline's Dream Lumi Touch was really the only one that I could find. (Actually, there was another by Rimmel but all of the ones in my shade had been opened and tampered with. Sigh. Please protect your products, drugstore brands!) Anyway, this concealer comes in six shades: Radiant, Ivory, Buff, Nude, Beige, and Honey. I have it in the shade Buff.
The Dream Lumi Touch's "gel-based formula diffuses light" and "illuminates as it conceals". I was actually pretty pleased with the results, and think this really does do quite a good job at brightening and concealing in one, but unfortunately that's about the only pro I have for it. Here's what made me end up disliking this product...
First off, it comes in an obnoxious twist pen applicator which I absolutely loathe. I almost didn't buy it just for this reason, but I told myself I could deal with it. I hate how for the first time I have to twist the bottom of the pen a thousand and one times before the product will come out. I hate the brush applicator. I hate how I always feel like I'm wasting product with these pens. I just.. hate this type of packaging, okay?
Second, this is kind of hard to blend in if you have a drier area of skin. If you moisturize well enough beforehand though then that isn't a problem and it actually does blend quite nicely. Okay, so maybe this con was my fault for not moisturizing enough the first time I used this..
Anyway, third.. this creased on me in under an hour, even after I had set it with both a powder and a setting spray. I checked in a mirror and was horrified to see how badly it creased under my eyes, around my mouth, and around my nose! It was awful!
Fourth, if I touched my face the product came off on my fingers. No bueno.
Fifth.. I don't know. I just felt icky or something while wearing this.
So, sadly I give the Dream Lumi Touch a thumbs down. I really liked how it brightened but the wear and such just ruined it for me. I heard pretty good things about this product before so I'm kind of disappointed that it didn't work out so great for me. I don't want to waste it so I'm still going to try and work with it and use it up, though.. You win some, you lose some, I guess! Do you have any recommendations for a brightening concealer that I could try out?
