April Empties

This month I used up three products which are all skincare/body products. Here's a look at them!

From left to right (but I think it's pretty obvious, haha!) is the Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub, Victoria's Secret Body Wash in Coconut Passion (I looooove this scent), and Lancome's Bright Expert.

I liked the Queen Helene mask and I may repurchase it in the future, but for right now I still have a facial scrub to use up and I always like to try out new ones too. This wasn't my regular exfoliator since it's a bit rougher so I just used it when I felt I really needed it. Anyway, it's a good scrub and it's also pretty cheap!

I got the Victoria's Secret Body Wash back in November when I went to Boston so it's lasted me for a good while! I liked it and Coconut Passion is one of my favorite scents but since I don't have a Victoria's Secret where I live I won't be repurchasing. I'd like to in the future, though if given the chance! And I'd like to try out a new scent.

And my last empty is the Bright Expert by Lancome. This is just a deluxe sample size but it has lasted me for a very long time and I also have a second tube of it in my stash. The one I have is 15mL while the full size is 30mL for $78CA. This is another product I tried while trying to improve the dark marks on my forehead as it's a "dark spot reducer and radiance activator". I believe the marks on my forehead improved simply from a solid routine (exfoliation, SPF, etc.) and I don't feel like this really did much. I never used it too consistently there though, but I tried it out on other parts of my face like around my mouth and I didn't see much of a difference so it's definitely not something I would go out and purchase.. especially for that price! I am going to use up my second tube of it, though!

Macro Monday Vol.2: China Glaze Luxe and Lush

China Glaze Nail Lacquer in Luxe and Lush

Yay, here's my second macro photo! :) I also decided to name my macro series 'Macro Monday', as you can see from this post's title. 'Macro Photo' was just too boring and I didn't want to call these 'Weekly Macro' photos since that's the name pretty much everyone uses, haha. So, from now on any of my macros will be posted on a Monday! I'm still not sure if there will be one every Monday/week, though.

Anyway, what do you think? I thought this polish was just too gorgeous not to feature!

April Favorites

April sure seemed to go by quickly! I want to say that each month but I don't want to sound repetitive, haha. It's true, though! Anyway, here is my monthly favorites post!

The first product I want to talk about it the Smashbox Be Discovered palette! (You can click-through for my post on it.) This is an awesome palette for spring and the eyeshadows in it are almost the only ones I used all month! It's mostly neutrals but has a pretty pastel pink and lilac in it as well. Perfect for spring, am I right?

Next is Stila's Kajal Eye Liner in Topaz. I was going for a more fresh faced and natural look most of the time this month and this product made it easy! It made my eyes look brighter and more awake and isn't as harsh as a white liner.

I really enjoyed two mascaras this month which were Lancome's Définicils Precious Cells and Benefit's BADgal Lash. I recently wrote a post on the Lancome mascara (click-through above) and why I love it, and I really like the Benefit one for a more natural look. They're both very nice!

And last but not least is lip products.. Revlon's Lip Butters make a comeback to my favorites posts! This one is the shade Tutti Frutti and it was definitely my most worn lip color for April. Again, it's also very spring..! I love Lip Butters and I'm really wanting to get my hands on some of the new shades Revlon came out with!

I also found a great new lip treatment this month: Nivea's Lip Butter! I guess I'm just digging the lip butters this month! I'm glad I decided to try this out because I was a bit skeptical at first with all of the hype surrounding it..! I said it in my review but I do recommend this!

So what were your favorites for this month? Spring is getting me excited!

Dorothy Who?

I have an obsession with what I like to call 'mermaid nails'. I'm sure you must have heard the term before! It's any polish that just screams mermaid, basically. I associate it most with deep blue polishes with pretty shimmers or glitter. I usually just like to drool over mermaid polishes online, though, since I've never had one.. Until now!

This is Dorothy Who? by China Glaze and it is stunning! I've always seen it with the China Glaze display but for some reason it never really interested me.. WHY?! The other day I went to Sally's just to pick up a new bottle of Seche Vite topcoat, but I ended up coming out with that plus three CG polishes.. Hey, they were buy two get one free! Obviously, Dorothy Who? was among those three polishes. I'm still not sure what changed my mind about getting this but I'm glad that I finally did.

Stunning, right?! As you can see Dorothy Who? is a beautiful deep blue with glitter to match. The glitter is absolutely amazing.. I have to keep stopping to just stare at my nails..! This polish is just so incredibly pretty!

Here is it taken with flash. Honestly, the way this shimmers and glistens just blows my mind, haha! It's gorgeous!

And here's one last picture.. I simply couldn't choose just one to share! So, aside from the fact that this polish is beautiful the formula is quite nice as well! I used two coats to get what you see here.. With the first coat you just see the transluscent blue base and it can be a bit streaky but with two you really see how lovely it is! I think it would also look awesome if you layered this over a black polish! Anyway, this was really smooth to apply and for a glitter polish the base was more on the thin side. With two coats I noticed that in a few places it still looks a bit transluscent, so if you wanted a really full coverage I would go with a third coat! Also, even without a topcoat this is so shiny and nice!

I'm kicking myself for not getting Dorothy Who? earlier! What do you think of it?

Tarte on Hautelook!

Hey everyone! Just a heads up that Tarte is going to be on Hautelook tomorrow, April 24! (If you're not a member yet then you can use my personal invite here!) So, are any of you going to check this sale out? I'm interested to see what else they'll have!

In other news, I'm hoping to have some new posts up as soon as possible so I'll see you then! :)

Lancome Définicils Precious Cells Mascara

Oh, Lancome.. You make such nice mascaras.

Today I wanted to make a quick post on Lancome's Définicils Precious Cells mascara. In short, I really like it. I just have a sample size of it that came in a GWP if you couldn't tell, but the full size of this mascara is $34CA. Here's what Lancome's website says about it:

"The most beautiful eyes have a secret. Experience the first caring mascara from Lancome that visibly regenerates the condition of lashes. Reveal beautifully defined, fuller, stronger lashes. Its secret is the Lash Densifier Complex, with a precious plant cell extract, which helps regenerate lash condition, so they're stronger, denser and less likely to fall out during makeup removal."

I'm one of those people who has multiple tubes of mascara opened and likes to use a different one every day, so I haven't used this enough to try and touch on the claims it makes on improving the lashes. I love how it makes my lashes look, however!

This mascara actually reminds me a lot of my dear TONYMOLY Cats Wink Mascara! It has a thin brush with a not too wet and not too dry formula and gives my lashes both lovely length and volume. It claims to "define and thicken for a lash-by-lash fullness" and it does! It's also very easy to apply, seperates and defines wonderfully, and doesn't clump. Ahh, I love it. I've also tried Lancome's regular Définicils mascara, and while I haven't used it in a while I'm pretty sure that I prefer Precious Cells.

Unfortunately I probably wouldn't purchase a full size of this, just because there are plenty of good drugstore mascaras out there. The sad thing, though, is that I have a much easier access to this then my TONYMOLY mascara but it's much more expensive! - otherwise it would have been a great alternative. Insert frowny face here.

Macro Photo Vol.1: The Body Shop Shimmer Waves in Peach

The Body Shop Shimmer Waves in Peach

I read a few blogs that do Weekly Macro shots (Christine Iversen, Vampy Varnish for example) and decided recently that I would enjoy giving it a go. It seems like fun and it's something new to add to my blog! I don't think that it will be a weekly thing for me, though.

What do you think? I apologize that the photo isn't the best but I just used a simple point and shoot Canon with a macro setting to take it. No big and fancy cameras here! ^^;

OPI Which is Witch? & NOTD

April is looking like a nail polish month, isn't it? Today I have Which is Witch? from OPI's Oz The Great and Powerful collection. I have one other polish from this collection here. I didn't think I'd be getting any others until I saw a look that I wanted to re-create, like I mentioned in my last post. So.. here I am with another Oz polish.

Which is Witch? is described as a silver glitter with iridescent sparkles. It has thin bar glitters, hexagonal glitters, and shimmers and it flashes rainbow. I don't usually like bar glitters but I think this polish is rather pretty!

As for the forumla.. well, it was quite thick and almost goopy. At times it could even be a bit difficult to get the brush to stroke across my nail. I'm thinking perhaps I got a not so great bottle because I haven't heard anything bad about this polish. I might try adding some polish thinner to it in the future! Anyway, here's how I wore this polish:

Ahh, I think it's so pretty! This is the look from OPI's Facebook page that I re-created. When I saw the picture I just had to go out and get this polish along with You're Such a Budapest!

OPI You're Such a Budapest

You're Such a Budapest is from OPI's spring Euro Centrale collection. I wasn't that interested in this shade upon my first spin on this collection, but then I saw a look that I wanted to re-create and went back to get it. I'm glad that I did!

This is a really pretty periwinkle purple that even has some really sublte shimmer in it. And when I say subtle I do mean subtle.. The shimmer isn't visible in the bottle but with the first coat of polish I used I noticed it. It's a nice touch!

The formula was definitely on the thin side and was quite streaky and transluscent on the first coat, but it wasn't too difficult or annoying to work with. With two coats (which I used in the above photo) it's almost opaque but if you look closely you can see some of the nail peeking through. If you want your polish completely opaque I would go for three coats of this.

I really love You're Such a Budapest, even though I wish it could have been a one-coater! Like I said, I'm glad that I ended up getting this!

Stila on Hautelook!

So, are you gonna check this event out tomorrow or skip it?

Quick Review: Nivea Lip Butter

So, this is the Nivea Lip Butter in Vanilla & Macadamia. I've been seeing these guys pop up quite a lot throughout the beauty community and became intrigued.. hey, I'm always up for lip balm - me and my lips are still searching for our holy grail. While this product isn't HG status I still really like it, though!

The lip butter comes in a slim tin and contains 19ml of product. It's about the same size as a tin of Rosebud Salve. And this is what Nivea says about it:

"The moisturizing formula of Nivea Lip Butter with Hydra IQ contains shea butter and almond oil and provides intensive moisture and long-lasting care. This pleasant formula with vanilla and macadamia aroma leaves lips sensationally soft."

This stuff is most definitely pleasant. It's solid in the tin and has a really nice formula that isn't too waxy nor too greasy. It smoothes onto the lips easily and feels moisturizing right off the bat. It's also comfortable to wear. I love to put it on right before I go to bed - so nice. While a tin may not be the most ideal packaging choice to most people I still recommend this product!

Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel in Painted Peony

Goodness gracious. Avon came out with six new shades of their Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel polishes and I have one of them, which is Painted Peony.. And it is beautiful.

I wasn't interested in any of the new shades at first but then I saw Tracey's swatches of them on Beauty Reflections and just had to have this one. I'm a sucker for peaches and pinks, and better yet: peachy pinks!, and it looked so pretty it didn't take much to sell me on it.

Perhaps it looks a little familiar, though? When I got it I thought it looked a lot like NARS' Orgasm polish! I don't have said product to compare to but upon looking up swatches I've come to the conclusion that Painted Peony is more pink then Orgasm, and perhaps not as sheer. Anyway, onto how this looks on the nails!

Ahh, so nice. Painted Peony is a peachy pink with a golden sheen and a really nice formula. I'm wearing two coats above, but you could also go for a more sheer look and just use one.. I just prefer the way that two coats look!

If you've been wanting the NARS Orgasm polish but don't like the pricetag then I do really reccommend checking this out - it's only $6.99! Like I said before, it is more pink then Orgasm but I think that this is a great alternative. And honestly, I think I prefer how Painted Peony looks!

love this shade and I could probably rave on and on about it, but I'll be ending the post here! :)

I like this brush.. Just not for what it's intended for.

Hmm..
Well, this is the Angled Contour Eyeshadow Brush by mark. that I just got recently and have been playing around with.

You should be able to "create depth and definition with this angled brush that deposits and blends color into the crease easily and expertly", but I prefer to use it two other ways..

I'm not sure if you can tell from the pictures, but this brush is kind of.. large. It has a thick and somewhat weighty handle as well as a big head of bristles. The size of the handle is something I'm definitely not used to when it comes to eye brushes.

Anyway, for use in the crease I'm not sure I really like this brush. Personally, I find it too big and almost a bit awkward to use in the crease.. especially for everyday looks. It's also not as soft as I'd like an eye brush to be, but it's not so coarse that it's uncomfortable either. I may try using it in my crease again some day but for now I'm really not feeling it.

So, I'm not a big fan of it for it's intended use but what do I like it for? First of all, I think it's a great brush to highlight the browbone with! For that, I think it's a very nice size. I've been using it a lot lately for my highlight. And the other use I like it for is for contouring my nose. My nose is kind of big (more so in photos, haha) so I like to slim it down with contouring from time to time. I find that this brush fits really nicely into the contours of my nose and does a good job blending so I don't get that muddy look.

Now do I think it was worth $10? Nah, not really.. I've been searching for a good crease brush for a while but this isn't it. My journey for my perfect crease brush shall continue.

Beauty Kitten's Liebster Award!

Well, this is quite exciting! I recieved a nomination for a Liebster Award! I'd like to thank Lisa from Lisalovesmakeup87 for nominating my blog, I really appreciate it and it made me really happy! :')

From what I've learned the Liebster Award is an award (obviously) that goes around the blogging community and is given to bloggers with under two hundred followers. It's a great way to recognize some of the great smaller bloggers there are, and to get to know them as well! Us small bloggers need love too, right? So, I'm grateful to have gotten a nomination!

Alright, these are the rules for the Liebster Award:
1. Each blogger should answer the questions the tagger has set for you.
2. Choose 11 new bloggers to pass the award onto and link them in your post.
3. Create 11 new questions for the chosen bloggers.
4. Go back to their page and tell them about the award.
5. Each blogger should post 11 random facts about themselves.
6. No tag-backs!

So, here are my answers to Lisa's questions!
1. What is one show that you watch but are too ashamed to admit? It's fine if you say Keeping Up With The Kardashians. LOL
This is kinda hard since I really don't watch that much TV! Perhaps Big Brother Canada? It's always being compared to BBUS and has gotten some negativity and such but I like it!

2. If you could do one thing that completes or fulfills your life, what would it be?
Ah, I'm not sure! Maybe visit the Phillipines, where my dad is from!

3. What is your favorite thing about makeup?
Well, it's fun! I won't get much further into that answer or we may be here a while!

4. Flats, wedges, sneakers, heels, or boots? If you had to wear one type of shoe for the whole year (without them hurting your feet), what would it be?
I love my wedges but I wouldn't be able to wear those during the winter with all the snow here, so I'll go with boots! There are tons of different cute boots and you can wear them all year round!

5. Edward or Jacob?
Neither! Stefan Salvatore, please! (I'm a Vampire Diaries girl, no Twilight for me!)

6. What's your idea of a perfect, romantic date?
Don't judge me alright?! It would be to stay in and order food, play video games, watch movies, and cuddle :'3

7. What's your favorite drugstore brand?
Hmm.. It would probably be Revlon for face and lip products and Maybelline for eyes!

8. What are your short-term plans?
Right now it's just to finish up with school, really!

9. What is one thing you wish you had known about makeup sooner?
Oh, goodness. That racoon eyes are never a good look.. That there can be such a thing as too much liner.. When I look back at myself when I first started using makeup I just want to take the liner away from her!

10. If you were stranded on an island and could only bring one thing with you (no cellphones please), what would it be?
She's not a thing, but I would bring my best friend Megan! Is that answer allowed? Anyway, she's a smart cookie so she would help us to survive and be rescued!

11. If you could travel anywhere in the world for free, where would you go?
Either the Phillipines or Japan!

Now for eleven random facts about myself.. Let's see..
1. I have six cats! I have a boy named Oliver, a boy named Spike and his sister Lola, and a girl named Sophie and her two daughters Smudge and Miwa. I'm a crazy cat lady and I embrace that, haha.

2. My mom is caucasian and my dad is Filipino, which makes me half Filipina! I get questions about my heritage from time to time so there you go!

3. I like anime and I also like video games but I'm by no means a gamer! I enjoy RPGs like Kingdom Hearts or The Legend of Zelda! (I'm also good at Mario Kart and Wii bowling, hehe)

4. I'm actually homeschooled. I've suffered with depression before, and I have anxiety. I was a bit afraid of starting this blog because of that but I'm very glad that I did! :)

5. I don't like vegetables, but I really wish that I did! I only like potatoes and corn, really.. I can do onions but I'd rather not and I'll only have cabbage and carrots if they're in a spring roll..!

6. I don't mean to brag but I do make the best homemade spring rolls ever.. ;)

7. I haaaate milk. It's yucky and I haven't touched it since I was a baby.

8. I was attacked by a dog in 2004.. and almost died, yikes! I have a big scar on the back of my head and by my ear and that's one of the reasons I don't like when people play with my hair. It makes me a bit uncomfortable and self-concious.

9. My favorite food is anything my dad makes!!

10. More cat-ness! If something has cats you can bet that I'll most likely buy it! I have cat earrings, cat headbands, cat rings, cat shirts and sweaters, cat shorts, cat skirts, cat shaped cosmetics (see here and here), a cat shaped purse, a cat clothes hanger.. You get the picture!

11. Hmm.. I love Supernatural and The Walking Dead even though they hurt my soul and make me cry, haha.

Now for the eleven bloggers that I want to pass the Liebster Award onto.. A lot of blogs I follow have more then 200 followers so it was a bit tough to come up with them but these are blogs that I like and think deserve some more recognition! Some I've read for a while and some I've just recently come across so here they are:

1. Kadie Lee @ Makeup Is Rad!
7.  Ellie @ Ethereal Ellie
9. Viviani @ Owlery Owl
10. Anjali @ To Read on Rainy Days
11. Ellen @ Elle Bella Beauty

And here are my eleven questions for them:
1. What makeup product do you have a weakness for? (Ex. blush, lipsticks, mascaras)

2. What's your favorite season?

3. What's your favorite song right now?

4. If you had to go on a reality show, which would it be?

5. What's your favorite movie genre?

6. What's the last book you read?

7. Are you a cat person or a dog person?

8. What's one food that you hate?

9. How did you come up with the name of your blog?

10. Do you have any pets?

11. Do you make a lot of impulse purchases?

Phew! I apologize for the length of this post but hopefully you learned a bit about me and can find some new bloggers to check out!  :)

Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel in Serene

Serene is one of three polishes from Avon's limited edition Spring collection, Zenergy. I purchased my bottle for $3.49 when it first appeared in the campaign books, but it will be $6.99.

I was a little disappointed when this polish arrived.. In the campaign book it looked much darker and more turquoise-y. It's actually much lighter and more like a baby blue or robins egg blue with almost a hint of mint, too. Oh, how I dislike inaccurate product photos.. :(

Here it is on my nails using two coats. You can get it pretty much opaque with just one coat, but I used two for good measure. The formula was okay, and it dried quite quickly without me having to use a coat of Seche Vite. I did get some tiny bumps (or bubbling) on my thumbs, but all the other nails were fine.

Serene is a pretty color, just not what I was expecting. It's also not the most unique color, either.. If you like these kinds of shades you probably have something very close to it already. I'm not that big on light blues personally so I only had one similar polish which is China Glaze's For Audrey:

I thought they might be dupes until I swatched them side by side. Serene is on the left and For Audrey is on the right. Serene is lighter, and like I said, has a very slight hint of mint to it. So, they're quite similar, just not dupes.
