The new Maybelline Color Elixir is a product I've been patiently waiting to try out, so I was pretty excited when I finally got my hands on one. They're said to deliver "the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss"; sounds good, doesn't it? Out of twenty shades ranging from nudes to purples I chose Intoxicating Spice, a brown with red undertones.
The Color Elixirs come in a tube that's about the size of my palm. Not only is it cute, but it's also helpful since you can see the color from the outside. For the applicator you get an "exclusive smoothing angora brush" in a teardrop shape that claims to give an even and polished application.
Here are the swatches! In the tube Intoxicating Spice doesn't look like a shade I would usually go for, but once I tried it on I realized just how pretty it was. It doesn't quite have the color and opacity of a lipstick like it claims, but I was still really impressed with the pigmentation. Application was smooth, precise, and slick, and the formula was both hydrating and comfortable to wear. As for lasting power it stayed on my lips throughout eating and drinking, and though I lost some of the shine the color stuck around for quite a while. Overall, I kind of love this product... except for one thing: the taste. These have a horrible chemical taste that I just can't get over.. It's so bad that I can't see myself purchasing another shade no matter how much I love everything else about the product. Sigh.
So, what do you think? Have you tried the Color Elixirs yet? If you have please share your thoughts with me in the comments!
