Just dropping in to let you guys know that tarte is currently on Hautelook! There's a huge selection of individual products and sets starting from $8 to $39, and the sale ends on Monday at 8AM Pacific. I'm tempted to get something but I'm going to try and resist, haha.
Crown Brush is also on sale currently, and that sale ends on Sunday at 8AM Pacific. If you're looking for brush sets I have the 'Professional 15-Piece Set with Designer Bronze Case' in my kit and would recommend it! Besides the selection of brush sets there's also lots of individual brushes and makeup palettes on sale as well! Will you be checking out either of these sales? Let me know in the comments if you end up getting anything!
I've been really into dark lipsticks lately so when Avon's Ultra Color Lipsticks were on sale I decided to get Vixen to try out. Avon generally makes a good lipstick so I wasn't worried about the quality.. I was just hoping that it would be dark enough to satisfy my craving!
Avon repackaged their Ultra Color Lipsticks not that long ago, and they now come in a rectangular tube with a clear window on the cap to see the color through; definitely more modern then their old rounded tubes! Before I continue, here's what Avon has to say about these lipsticks:
"Don't just color your lips - nourish them! This sensational formula delivers vivid, stay-true color for hours of glorious wear. Infused with shea butter, omega oil, arctic berry and vitamin E, it conditions and moisturizes your lips, magnifying your smile to a new resonance."
Vixen is a dark, berry red that I would have loved to have during the fall, and while it's not quite as dark as I was expecting I'm still happy with it. The color payoff is awesome, and I only needed one swipe for what you see in my swatch above. I wish that I could share a lip swatch with you too, but unfortunately I just couldn't get a good one (how I long for the summer when I could get nice, clear photos outside!). Anyway..
The formula is really smooth and creamy, applied easily, and was comfortable on the lips. Vixen is supposed to be a 'soft matte' finish, but as you can see from my swatch it's really not that matte at all. This didn't bother me personally, but I do prefer the look of if when it's blotted down a bit to reduce the shine. As for wear time, it wore well throughout eating and drinking (and kissing cats ´ω｀) and it also leaves a stain behind. I found that it did seem to wear off a bit around the centre of my bottom lip the fastest, but it wasn't very noticeable unless I was looking up close. Overall, I give Vixen a thumbs up. Great lipstick, great shade, and great price (when on sale, which is almost always)!
Today I'll be talking about NYX's Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yogurt, which I bought on impulse because I thought it was pretty and it was on sale. If you'd like, you can see my review on the Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk here. While I don't think these are the best shadow/liner sticks out there they're still nice and come in a wide range of shades (thirty-two I believe).
Yogurt is a light, champagne bronze shade that looks like a rose gold at times. The texture is nice and creamy, applies smoothly, and is easy to blend out. The Jumbo Eye Pencils have a slight stick to them that makes them ideal as bases, but I definitely recommend using a primer with them or you might get some creasing and fading. Blended out, Yogurt becomes a sheer wash of color that would make a pretty highlight; I feel like it could work as a face highlighter as well but it might be a touch too shimmery for some. Overall, I think Yogurt is nice but it's just nothing special.
Maybelline Color Show Polka Dots Nail Lacquer in Drops of Jade
I haven't done Macro Monday since September, so here's a new one (finally)! Since it's St. Patrick's Day the obvious choice was something green, so here we have Maybelline's Color Show Polka Dots Nail Lacquer in Drops of Jade. If you like you can read my review and see swatches of it here!
Before anything else, let's talk packaging.. If I could choose only one word to describe the Lip Intense packaging it would probably be garish. I don't care for it at all but it's the product inside that counts right? Anyway, time for swatches..
Pink Rave swatched
Pink Rave applied (I apologize for the photo quality!)
Pink Rave is a bright, hot pink and is super pigmented with just one swipe. For application you get just the right amount of product on the wand so that you don't need to go back for more which is nice. The formula is creamy, but not as creamy as a NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream which is comparable, and applies quite smoothly. I can tell there's something on my lips at first which is a bit annoying but fortunately I forget about it in about five minutes. As for wear time it wears pretty well; it does transfer a bit if you're having a drink or kissing a cat but it's not until about two and a half hours that it wears down and you're left with just a stain. At this point my lips were really dry and uncomfortable though, so you might want to add a balm on top or just reapply the product. You can get away with just wearing the stain left behind but obviously it won't be as bright.
Overall, I have no strong feelings for this product.. It's nice but I just feel kind of 'meh' about it. Have you tried any of the Lip Intense Liquid Colors? If you have I'd love to hear what your thoughts are in the comments!
When I ran out of my usual Maybelline Define-A-Brow I decided to try something different, and ended up getting this Color Riche Le Sourcil Eyebrow Pencil by L'Oreal to try. It comes in only two shades (which is silly), and I have it in the shade Deep Brown. I've actually been using it for quite a while now but forgot to review it earlier.. my bad. Anyway..
This eyebrow pencil is a standard pencil that requires sharpening, and features a spoolie on the end which I really like. The formula is on the drier side and initially the color is quite soft, resembling a powder finish; for more intensity all you have to do is use more pressure when applying it. Either way it looks nice and natural on the brows, and the spoolie helps to blend it in seamlessly. Personally, I only have two downsides to this pencil.. One is that it's not as thin and precise as I'd like it to be for filling in the ends (or tails) of my brows. The other is that since I want it to be as precise as possible I find myself sharpening it almost constantly. I've used up a good portion of it already, whereas Define-A-Brow seems to last me ages and is cheaper. These things aside, I actually like this eyebrow pencil a lot. If you like this type of pencil and one of the shades matches you then I would give it a go.
