Makeup by One Direction Rock Me Nail Varnish Kit Review & Swatches

I'm back with another Makeup by One Direction review! This time it's on the limited edition Rock Me Nail Varnish Kit, which should be available now in stores such as Macy's and Dillards along with the Liquilights Glow Gloss Kit I previously reviewed. If you're looking for more info or updates on the line, check out and like the official Facebook page here. Before we continue, here's the description for this set from the back of the box:

"Rock Me Nail Kit, featuring UV-reactive nail varnish and UV-reactive glitter nail toppings that add even more sizzle to your mani, for nails that light up day and night. Sprinkle the glitter over wet polish for a subtle accent, or go for the glitz and dip your entire wet mani in mega-watt sparkle!"

The kit contains three nail polishes and three jars of glitter, but I'll only be reviewing the polishes today (sorry!).. The loose glitters just aren't my thing; but if you're more into nail art then I am then it's a nice little addition.

The three polishes included in the kit are, from left to right, Happily, Moments, and Diana. Like the glosses, they're each named after One Direction songs. The bottles are square with a brick pattern on the caps, and contain 8.0ml of product. The brushes are on the wider side which I personally prefer, but the hairs themselves are slightly thick and cheap looking.. This didn't seem to affect the application though because I didn't experience any problems.

Here we have some swatches in the same order as above. I'm going to run though each shade quickly, so let's start with Happily, which is described as an 'iced blue'. It's a really nice shade, but for some reason the polish refused to stay on the center of the nail (even with four coats which is what I used above) and kept pooling to the sides. Bummer. Next up is Moments, which is described as a 'neon pink'. The formula on this one was fine, and was opaque in just two coats. The color is super fun and bright which makes me really miss summer, haha. And last but not least we have Diana, which is just described as a '3D holographic'.. I'm not usually a fan of bar glitters but I actually like the way this one looks! I used two coats in the above swatch, and the glitter dispersed nice and evenly which was nice. Okay, time for a verdict.. If you're like me and won't use the loose glitters you could probably pass on this kit since one of the polishes is a bit of a dud, and it might not be worth it for just two shades.. If you have a One Direction fan in your life who's really into nails however, it could make a great gift. So, what's your opinion? Yay or nay?

Makeup by One Direction Liquilights Glow Gloss Kit Review & Swatches

Today I'm really excited to be reviewing this new, limited edition Liquilights Glow Gloss Kit by Makeup by One Direction for you! This kit along with two others (one of which I'll also be reviewing) launched on November 15th and should be available in stores such as Macy's and Dillards. For more updates and info be sure to like the official Facebook page here. Okay, let's get to the makeup..! Here's the description from the back of the box:

"Liquilights Glow Gloss sparkles brilliantly during the day and illuminates under UV black light after dark. Enriched with natural oils and Vitamin E to keep your lips soft and hydrated all day and all night. Gloss can be worn alone for a pop of sparkle and color, or paired with One Direction Crème Lipstick for a bolder look."

The kit comes with three glosses that are named after One Direction songs, which I find really cute. From left to right is Kiss You, Taken (one of my favorite songs off the Up All Night album!), and Through The Dark. As for packaging, they come in square tubes with a brick pattern on the caps and have paddle-style sponge applicators (like a doe-foot applicator but.. paddle shaped). Onto the swatches..!

Here's a wrist swatch in the same order as above.. I wasn't expecting them to be as bright as they are but I was pleasantly surprised! Kiss You is described as an "orange glitter rush that glows to neon yellow under UV light"; Taken is described as a "powerhouse glitter pink that glows to neon pink-orange under UV light"; and Through The Dark is described as an "electric glitter poppy that glows to neon red-orange under UV light". Unfortunately I didn't test the glowing part as it didn't interest me personally, so I apologize if you were curious!

'Kiss You' Applied

'Taken' Applied

'Through The Dark' Applied

I thought they might sheer out once applied to the lips, but they actually have pretty great color pay-off! While I like all three shades, Through The Dark would have to be my favorite as it's the most subtle in terms of glitter. As for the formula, it's super smooth and slick, is comfy on the lips, and isn't sticky or tacky at all. The applicator is nice and soft, easy to use, and has enough product on it so that you don't need to go back for more which is nice. These glosses do have a slight generic lip-gloss taste and scent to them which I usually hate, but I find that I'm able to tolerate it which is great . Last of all is the wear.. Since the formula is more slick and is non-sticky it only wore for about two hours on me during a five hour shift. This is fine with me though, as I would rather have a shorter wear time then sticky lips, haha. I'll admit that I was a little skeptical of this makeup line at first despite being a One Direction fan, but I'm actually quite impressed with these glosses! If you have a 1D fan in your life this kit would make a perfect gift for the holidays!

theBalm Cindy-Lou Manizer Review & Swatches

When theBalm first came out with Cindy-Lou Manizer I wasn't all that interested because I felt like it wouldn't flatter my skin-tone all that well.. When they were last up on Hautelook though, I wasn't able to resist and ended up getting it to complete my trio since I already own Mary-Lou Manizer and Betty-Lou Manizer (my justification was that if it looked bad on me I could just add it to my kit, haha). Before we get to the review and swatch let's talk packaging.. Like her sisters, Cindy-Lou comes in a round compact with a snap closure. While Mary-Lou had a mug-shot and Betty-Lou had a wanted poster, Cindy-Lou sports an escaped poster. I don't think I have to tell you again how much I love theBalm's packaging, so let's get into their description of this product:

"An all-in-one essential, this smart shadow, beautiful blush, and subtle highlighter is tucked inside a go-anywhere compact. The light-reflecting peachy pink hue adds a splash of color to your cheeks and a hint of shimmer to your lids, while illuminating your finest features."

It looks a bit more like a tanned, peachy shade in the pan but when swatched it shows up as a pale, peachy pink like theBalm describes. I was concerned it might look strange used as a highlight on me because of this, but once you blend it out it becomes more subtle and gives a beautiful glow.. I ended up really liking it as a highlight, and have even found myself using it more then my beloved Mary-Lou Manizer lately!

Heavy Swatch

Like her sisters (and theBalm's powder products in general), Cindy-Lou Manizer is super soft and finely milled. A little goes a long way and it blends almost effortlessly. As for wear, I find that I'm able to get through a whole day with only some faint fading. I've said it before, but I'm still convinced that theBalm adds magic to their products, haha. I'm digging Cindy-Lou, and next time it's up on Hautelook I'm going to have to get another to add to my kit!

QUICK REVIEW: SpaRitual Nail Lacquer in Arroyo Review & Swatch

Hi, everyone! Before I get to today's review I just want to quickly apologize for my absence in the blogging world (my last post was back on October 8th!). Not only is my new job taking up a good amount of my time, but my grandmother sadly passed away on October 19th so between working, the wake and funeral, and just taking some time for myself and family, beauty blogging was put on the back burner.. Today I finally have a new post for you, though! Say hello to Arroyo from SpaRitual's new Wander collection; a dull, mauve-y pink with golden shimmer. It quickly dries to a matte/suede-like finish which I love (pictured above), but it also looks really beautiful with a topcoat over it (see Vampy Varnish's swatch). Application was a breeze as I found the brush easy to work with, and the formula was just right.. I only needed two coats for complete coverage. I may not own many SpaRitual polishes (this is my third), but when they come out with a shade that I just can't resist I'm always left impressed!
