Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Red Essence Review & Swatches
I apologize for yet another small hiatus from the blogging world, but I'm back today with a review on this Rouge Infusion Lip Stain in Red Essence ($18CDN) from Sephora. I have a few red lip products I'd like to try (keyword is try) and review before Christmas, so let's get this one out of the way first.. Sephora claims that this lip stain "delivers intense color with no sticky residue" and that it "provides buildable coverage". They also claim that the "weightless formula leaves lips stained, soft, hydrated, and refreshed upon application". Well, okay then. Before we get to the actual review let's quickly talk packaging.. I just have a deluxe sample size which is packaged the same as the full size, just smaller. I'm sure the full size would look fine, but let's be real.. The sample size looks like a tampon.
The applicator is a doe-foot which is a plus. I don't really have anything else to say here.. I just wanted to use this picture because I liked how it came out, haha. Okay, let's get to the swatches:
Red Essence is a red (obviously), that leans sort of ox-bloody.. It looks like a nice shade and the swatch seemed fine, but then I put it on my lips..
It's not quite as noticeable here as it is in person, but this stuff clings to dry spots. If you don't have perfectly smooth lips it's just gonna look like a mess. It is somewhat buildable.. but only on my dry spots. No matter how many times I went over the lower bit of my bottom lip (where you can see it's sheer and uneven) it just wouldn't build up and would basically wipe away. Not cool. Upon first application it feels.. wet.. in a weird way. It kind of dries after a few seconds, but I can still tell I have something on my lips and my brain just goes "What is this? Please get it off!". And so I did.. I don't think I even had it on for an hour, but it just felt so unpleasant. It does leave a stain like it claims, though, but only on the dry parts of my lips. After removal I was left with mostly bare lips and then patches of this stuff that would not come off.. I can only imagine how it would look if you let it wear off on its own. On top of all of this, it also has a super sweet, artificial fruity scent and slight taste. No, thank you. In conclusion: I'm not a fan.
