Hello! I'm just popping in to let you guys know that Illamasqua is currently on sale on Hautelook until Monday, May 4 at 8AM Pacific. Included in the sale are some Intense Lipglosses (I have the shade 'Move' which I really like and will be posting about in the future), lipsticks, false eyelashes, tons of nail polishes, and some other things like cream pigments and blush. I ended up getting four nail polishes and two lipsticks to try which I'm quite excited about (*´・ｖ・) Let me know if you end up getting anything or if anything catches your eye!
I finally have time to blog, so today let's take a look at Cargo's Shanghai Nights Eyeshadow Palette (after typing this first sentence I got called into work again, so let's try this again..). I haven't seen much about this palette in the beauty community but I found it at Winners for just $20 (originally $39) so I decided to give it a try! Here's the description for it from Cargo's website:
"Become entranced with the lights and seduced by the city with Cargo's "Shanghai Nights Fall Eyeshadow Palette". Richly pigmented shades of deep burgundy, teal, and gold pop against the backdrop of classic black and navy for eyes that are beautifully defined and accompany a luminous, glowing complexion. This compact features a selection of bright hues reminiscent of the lights of Shanghai."
The packaging is cardboard with a magnetic closure and includes a mirror, double-ended brush, and twelve eyeshadows. The shades are mostly neutral with a few pops of color, and the finishes range from mattes, shimmers, and satins. The texture of the shadows are all soft and smooth (though the mattes are a bit firmer), and the pigmentation varies.. Here's some swatches:
Here's the first row of shadows! From left to right is Wai Tai, Skyline, Bund, Lychee, Jin Mao, and Neon. The pigmentation is pretty great on all of them except for Skyline (two swipes used to swatch) which was pretty disappointing, and would definitely need a primer or base if I was going to use it. I love using Wai Tai and Bund in the crease or even as an all-over lid shade though, and Neon is a really pretty highlight shade. As for Lychee and Jin Mao: gorgeous.
Here's the second row of shadows, which from left to right are Hu, Street Style, Ginger, Jade, Bar Rouge, and Night Life. The first three had great pigmentation, but unfortunately Jade, Bar Rouge, and Night Life (two swipes used to swatch) were on the sheer side just like Skyline. I was especially disappointed with Jade though, since it looks so pretty in the pan and also shares my name! Anyway, Hu makes a great all-over base shade or subtle highlight and is all I've been using lately, and Street Style and Ginger are both really nice. I didn't bother testing Street Style, Jade, Bar Rouge, or Night Life but the other shadows all apply and blend well. As for lasting powder, when worn over a primer they lasted all day for me with no creasing or fading. In conclusion, while I do think that this is a nice eyeshadow palette I don't think it's a must-have or anything, nor do I think I would have paid full price for it.. If you can find it on sale like I did and like the shades however then I would give it a whirl!
